Carol Stream Park District – Veterans Memorial at Memorial Park
Location: Carol Stream, Illinois
Construction Budget: $215,000
Client: Carol Stream Park District, Village of Carol Stream, VFW Post #10396
Studio Bloom was thrilled to help the Carol Stream Park District, Village of Carol Stream and local VFW Post develop a plan to renovate the existing memorial and provide illustrations to support their fundraising efforts. The original monument was erected in honor of the first fire fighter who had fallen in the line of duty, and though it was lovingly cared for, the surrounding garden had become over grown and the space needed to be enlarged to hold the 100-person audience who comes to the Memorial Day celebration each year.
Studio Bloom created a new lighted walkway, that leads you to the main Veterans Memorial Plaza that will have granite monuments for each of the five branches of the military. The smaller Public Safety Service Plaza will include the original memorial monument, benches and the peace pole, which was a gift from a local Girl Scout troop. The paving for both plazas will incorporate engravable pavers that will be one of the avenues for fundraising for the overall project. A small pavilion, seat wall, flag poles and new landscaping round out the amenities.
